“North Caicos is regarded as the emerald isle, ideal for agriculture, mariculture, but with a location so close to Provo there is much more potential than this ”
Conrad Higgs, Chief Executive Officer, TCInvest

North Caicos is the lushest of all the islands. The 41 square mile island holds a population of 1400 who live in the settlements of Bottle Creek, Whitby , Kew and Sandy Point .

Just 12 miles northeast of Providenciales, North Caicos is only a 5 minute flight from Provo and a 5 minute boat ride from the exclusive resort island of Parrot Cay . North Caicos also enjoys a regular ferry service to Middle Caicos.

Once the seat of Government in the Caicos Islands and the main port for loading the harvests of ' Sea Island ' cotton, North Caicos now boasts the largest flock of flamingos at the aptly named "Flamingo Pond Nature Reserve".

There are loyalist plantation ruins on the island, the grandest of which is Wades Green plantation which was opened in 2001 as a visitor site. Located just outside Kew , the well preserved ruins include a look-out tower, which provides a 360 degree view of the island and beyond.

Cottage Pond is a large pool surrounded by tropical vegetation which has an underwater cave system that some intrepid divers have begun to explore. There are several local legends about this peaceful pond. The ferns are so beautifully kept that local people believe the spirits maintain the area.

The abundant woodland, sea life and bird life from the nesting flamingos to the majestic ospreys has resulted in a steady increase in ecotour excursions from Provo and helps to attract visitors to stay on the island.

Horsestable Beach and Pelican Point, both very secluded, provide excellent environments for bird watching and romantic strolls beside the incredibly turquoise waters. The white sand and water colours make this a favourite spot for photoshoots, artists and amateur photographers.

Bottle Creek borders a lagoon on the north east of the island and is protected from the ocean by a long ribbon of sand.

Whitby Beach , a seven mile stretch of white sand covers a considerable length of the northern coast. The famous Three Mary Cays is located on this side, renowned for snorkeling and huge osprey nests. The hotels and the majority of expatriate homes are located here.

North Caicos possesses calm backwaters full of schooling bonefish and tarpon. Fishing trips can be arranged with local guides.

The lush green environment and the tidal flats could result in successful projects for agriculture and mariculture businesses. A dock is being completed and the close proximity of North Caicos to Provo should ensure effective product distribution. The international airport on this island receives daily domestic air service which has helped to increase day trip numbers and tourists using the hotel resorts.

Craft cooperatives are productive on this island but more eco-businesses could be established here. The island is known as the "breadbasket of the Turks and Caicos Islands " or "the emerald isle" - names which highlight the potential for agricultural development in particular.

Centuries past, fine sloops were built on the island to transport the crops from extensive farms located close to the settlements of Bottle Creek, Whitby , Kew and Sandy Point .

Recent developments on North Caicos include the opening of Ministerial Offices, the dredging of the Sandy Point dock, investment in the HorseStable beach area, improvement of the Flamingo Pond bird watching facilities. All of these developments are good indicators of where this island's economy is heading. With so much potential, it is no wonder that businesses are considering nesting here, just like those magical flamingos.

Investors who develop their project on North Caicos will benefit from import duty concessions of 10% or less as negotiated in a development agreement and land transfer rates of 2 % for properties $25k and over and 3% for properties $75k and over.
